Douglas Usiak to Serve as 2019 NYS Disability Rights
Hall of Fame Honorary Committee Chair
Albany, NY - October 15, 2018 - - Mr. Douglas Usiak, Executive Director of Western New York Independent Living (WNYIL), will serve as chair of the 2019 New York State Disability Rights Hall of Fame Honorary Committee.
The NYS Disability Rights Hall of Fame was created in 2018 to honor peers who have made lifelong achievements in the area(s) of improving public policy and programs/services, advancing new knowledge and/or concepts, eliminating barriers, and promoting a positive image for people with disabilities. Last year, Douglas Usiak was inducted into the inaugural class of the NYS Disability Rights Hall of Fame.
Since 1983, Mr. Usiak has overseen the creation and expansion of services for independent living centers, empowering people across the spectrum of disabilities to live independently. Mr. Usiak has presented at conferences around the country on disability rights and the Independent living philosophy. Thanks to his leadership, countless individuals with disabilities are living full lives as members of their communities.
